song drabbles part two: ieva's request
Second verse, same as the first, except this one ballooned amazingly. Ieva, you're amazing.
#530, prompt is the highschool AU remedial French study group + Nanao, anything about it XD
{This is an AU of route_29 and we love it to bits, sob.}
Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) by Emily Browning.
It was getting eerily dark outside, clouds gathering rapidly in the early November skies. Nanao spared them a glance before looking back down at the essay in front of her. Sure, she’d said she’d help Francis with his marking, having for once gotten all of hers done on time, but she hadn’t anticipated sitting in on the remedial french class. As passe compose and various conjugations rolled off the Parisian tongue, Envy stared blankly, pen poised to write. The wind gusted, rattling the windows, and she shivered again. That little voice in the back of her head said she should have just refused, but she shoved the voice down, and kept checking scribbled answers against the elegant hand of Francis’s answer sheet. Envy asked a question in halting French, and then there was a crack of thunder, and the lights went out.
#305 - Tetris, by 2PM.
Everyone froze. Francis cocked his head to the side.
“Just a blackout. Nothing to worry about, the school has generators” Sure enough, the lights came back on, just after he’d finished speaking. Nanao breathed a sigh of relief, and went back to marking papers, and Francis answered Envy’s question. She’d just finished that paper (she’d only been three questions from the end anyway) when the lights flickered. She looked up, and they steadied, but as she watched them, they flickered again, wobbled, and faded. Something had happened to the generators.
#207; Asterisk (Romatic Version), by Orange Range.
“What the fuck is happening.” Envy’s voice, flat, not scared. Yet. Nanao stood up, and walked over to the window, peering out into the gloom. The generators were in the storage rooms below the gym, half the campus away. Maybe the maintenance staff would be able to fix it - her eyes flicked to the clock. Five-thirty in the evening - they would have all gone home by now. Drat. So either they kept going in the dark, or went and investigated themselves. As teachers, they had keys to every building, but whether or not those keys would open the storage space.... That was the question. She looked over at Francis.
“What do we do?” He shrugged in that wonderfully Parisian style.
“Je ne sais pas - should we wait?” She explained about the grounds staff having gone home and he grimaced. Envy walked over to where she was and peered out. It was practically black now, the wind howling like nothing else.
“You guys’ve got keys, yeah? Then we should go see what’s happened.” Inhale, exhale. He was right.
#333; Friends on The Other Side, the Princess & The Frog
The three of them looked like most unlikely video game protagonists in the history of, well, ever, but it wasn’t like they had a choice. Nobody else was around to see what had happened to the generator. They exited the classroom, and shivered. It was freezing, as it the generators going had caused the temperature to drop as well.
“Gym’s this way.” Envy started off, getting practically to the end of the corridor before he realised that the adults weren’t following him. He turned and glared at them.
“What, you chicken?” Nanao and Francis glanced at each other, shrugged, and walked down towards him.
#45; Darling Kanaya, from the Homestuck album AlterniaBound.
It was eerily quiet, and... oddly enough, there was a certain beauty to it. Most students had gone home long ago, as well as most of the teachers. They held staff meetings at lunch time for a good reason: no one really wanted to be here after school had ended. Now, with just the three of them strolling down the corridors, it was peaceful.
#67; Tribal Ebonpyre, Homestuck Volume 6: Heir Transparent. I really need some longer songs.
Well, it would be peaceful, if there hadn’t been a low growl from behind them. They all turned as one unit and saw the most terrifying shadow with hackles raised. Francis’s face twisted into the most hysterically horrified shape possible, and then he bolted, screaming like only a Frenchman could.
#618; Bad Romance, Lady Gaga.
Envy and Nanao shared a terrified look, glanced back at the now advancing shadow, and ran after Francis. They’d just turned the corner when the thing howled and oh shit that was what that noise had been. Not the wind, but whatever that thing was. Nanao for one was incredibly grateful that she rode a bike to work everyday, because she managed to settle into a decent pace, running swiftly over the lino. Vaguely, she remembered that Envy was on the track and field team - or that he had been, before he was caught skipping training to go chill on the roof of the gym.
Claws clattered behind them - surely it couldn’t be gaining, they had gripping shoes and the whatever it was had nothing of the sort... Until it howled again, and there was an answer. Crap.
#427; Single Ladies, Beyonce. YOU SEE WHAT I MEAN.
That was when Envy’s phone went off - it had to be his, it sure as hell wasn’t hers. There was no way she’d ever have that song as a ring tone. But he couldn’t stop to answer it, and they could just see Francis’s expensive loafers disappear around the corner. There was a T-Junction up ahead, and the left hand turn went right towards the gym. Everything was going great, they were almost there! Until Francis screamed and came hurtling back around the corner.
#16; My Immortal, Evanescence
It happened in slow motion, the creature sliding around the corner, disgusting and hungry, Francis’s eyes wide in terror, Envy and Nanao trying desperately to stop and change direction, but it seemed like they were cut off, monsters bounding at them from the front and behind them. She wished she’d payed attention to that voice as Francis slammed into them, sending them ricocheting into - and through a door to the side of the corridor. She yelped as she tumbled down the cold concrete steps. Envy managed to slam the heavy fire door shut, and they were safe. For the moment.
#5; Vertical Motion, Homestuck Volume 5.
They paused for a brief moment, breathing heavily and wincing every time one of the dog/hyena things slammed into the door. Envy stared with wide eyes down at Francis and Nanao, and she whimpered just a little. Falling down those steps had hurt like nothing else. Francis had ended up doubled over the handrail and gasping for breath. That could have ended oh so badly.
#542; Where’d You Go, Fort Minor.
The creatures started whining, still slammming into the door, but they were pausing now, sniffling and snuffling, trying to make sure that their prey was still there, still hiding in the cold, cold stairwell.
“Are... Are you guys okay?” Envy sounded so young, and her heart went out to him. She struggled up to a sitting position, smiled shakily, and just breathed. Francis flopped bonelessly onto a step.
“Zis, zis is ‘ell. Je n’aime pas, je n’aime jamais.”
