They’d rolled into town two weeks ago and showed no signs of leaving, those two men and their guide (for a guide to be a woman was unusual, but not unheard of). Apparently they weren’t too bad at dice, but what she was really interested in was where they’d come from. They both spoke Spanish, as did the girl, surprisingly, and claimed to have found the most wondrous place, a city made all of gold. Lady Ise, the daughter of the governer had been duly interested, but her father would none of it, and forbade her from talking to them.

Talking, eh? Well, she’d show father dear just how many loopholes there were in that statement. It wasn’t hard to procure a maid’s clothes, but it was slightly more difficult to learn the routines of the household and when she might be able to slip out unnoticed. It was a difficult proposition, given her white as fresh milk skin that had never seen a hard day’s work in her life, and rarely coloured eyes. But she was determined to get out and about - after all, there was only so long she could stand this gilded cage for, and adventure was calling her name. Time for this bird to fly the coop, as one might say. Disguise in place, she walked quickly, head bowed, mimicking the posture of the servants as best she could.
